NEWS FLASH: Possible House Vote?

Ankle Biting Pundits is reporting something intriguing:
Another ABP news exclusive for you, this one from inside the topsy-turvy world of Republican House leadership, or if you prefer, “leadership.” Temporary Majority Leaders Roy Blunt is considering putting Social Security reform in the form of personal retirement accounts up on the House floor for an up-or-down vote, a well-placed source inside high-level Republican circles tells me. That’s good, right? Well, no. You see, instead of letting Social Security reform shrivel up and die or instead or whipping the hell out of his members to vote in favor of reform, Blunt is considering putting a reform bill up for a vote and allowing every Republican member “to vote their conscience.” The strategy here would be to allow those incumbent Republican members who feel their re-election chances are in jeopardy to “create distance” between them and President George W. Bush. “Leader Blunt believes a number of Republican members will profit politically if they can go back to their districts next year and say, ‘I stood up to the president of my own party who tried to dismantle Social Security,’” my source tells me.
UPDATE (9:08am): An reliable source has told me this is NOT true. Stay tuned if more information arrives...
