Letter to the Editor

16 December 2004 Editor, New York Post Dear Editor: Arnold Ahlert is right. Those who oppose Social Security privatization on grounds that ordinary people can’t be trusted to invest their own money are arrogant busybodies. (“Are You Too Dumb to Invest?” op-ed, Dec. 16th). If we are so dimwitted that we can’t supervise our own individual pensions, are we to be trusted to elect and supervise the government officials who supervise us? No people who allow themselves to be handled like children or incompetent fools will long remain free. Sincerely, Donald J. Boudreaux George Mason University
